VIDEOPOKER: HISTORY, RULES, STRATEGY

Video poker is one of the most popular and profitable gambling entertainment, which is included in the gaming range of any offline and online casino. In fact, video poker is a “mixture” of a slot machine and the famous card game – 5-card poker with exchange. Real gaming machines are equipped with the usual buttons for bets and moves, all winning combinations and payouts are summarized in a special table, only on the screen of the slot machine instead of rotating reels 5 cards are displayed in one row. In online video poker, all of the above components are included in the game interface and are transmitted to the monitor screen as an image.

Video poker history
Many players consider video poker a “young” gamble, however, this is not so. In fact, devices with video poker appeared in gambling establishments 14 years earlier than the first classic Liberty Bell slot machines. The predecessors of modern video poker machines are considered to be devices released by the American company Sittman and Pete in 1891. These machines consisted of five reels, on which were depicted cards of various virtues and stripes. Pulling the lever, the player started the rotation of the reels and, after they stopped, received a poker hand. Winning or losing depended on the value of the drawn card combination.

The appearance of video poker in its current form was preceded by the invention of a personal computer and the introduction of new technologies in the gambling industry. In the 70s of the XX century, Dale Electronics ‘Poker-Matic introduced the world the first modern machine for playing video poker. Initially, the players reacted to this innovation with some distrust, but by the 80s the video poker had its own army of fans who liked poker alone. The last stage in the evolution of this game can be considered the transition of video poker to online space. This happened in 1995, thanks to the efforts of Microgaming, which included video poker in the list of games of its first online casino.

Rules and game progress
General rules are described here, on the basis of which any kind of video poker is built. The game is played according to the standard rules of draw poker (5-card poker with exchange). The goal is to collect a paid combination of five cards, making no more than one exchange. All winning combinations of cards are displayed in the payout table, which is necessarily present in each interface of the game. Typically, this table includes all or most of the standard high-poker combinations. In some varieties, a joker is used, although this combination is not paid as generously as a “clean” hi-hand. It is better to familiarize yourself with winning combinations, payouts and other nuances yourself before the start of the game.
